about
«I began writing this song in 2016 when I first went to Samsø. It was sunny in the tiny courtyard of the house we were renting at the time. I finished it three years later when I returned to the island, and made an acoustic version before producing several months later the version which figures on the album.
It’s a bit mysterious, the song, but also well balanced. I hardly feel I wrote it. It was always there. Discovered rather than composed. It lends itself to several interpretations and that’s what I like about it. It has more than one voice.
Like many of my songs, I feel it should be sung by a woman and not me. It’s my feminine side maybe which creates , writes, sings. The masculine side cracks open the beer can at the end of the recording.»
lyrics
In the dark night I wait for the pale dawn
And catch myself dreaming of an ideal city
The one where I stand now doesn’t do me any good
In the dark night I long for our reunion.
Two souls in a flood, two lovers on the run
Once side by side they rode along as one
Two pure diamonds under the same straw hat
In the dark night, I long for our reunion
See the old mountains over there,
Try to look through them :
They make valleys just for us
Hiding behind the lines
In the holy city the wife takes off her veil
The blind man and the lunatic form a choir
The priest on his fingers counts his flock
In the dark night I long for our reunion
Two souls in flood, two lovers on the run
Once side by side they rode along as one
And you, what do you see on the other side of the walls?
In the dark night I long for our reunion
See the old mountains over there
Try to look through them :
The make valleys just for us
Hiding behind the lines
